Sean Southey

Chief Executive Officer

Sean Southey, the resourceful and award-winning CEO of PCI Media Impact, is deeply committed to community empowerment and to the use of creative broadcast and social media to facilitate powerful social and behavioral change. With over 30 years of experience in the international development and communications field, he leads PCI Media’s burgeoning portfolio of Environment, Public Health and Social Justice programs that now span over 60 countries, in addition to an impressive list of global media campaigns.

From the Caribbean to the Pacific Islands, from Latin America to Asia and Africa, PCI Media has won over 50 prestigious international awards for excellence, including The Webby People’s Voice Award for the #WildFor.Life Campaign and the Weibo Social Marketing Award as one of the “top 10 most influential campaigns for social good. His leadership has built-up the capacity of local partners around the world to use creative communications, behavior change strategies and storytelling to effect powerful social change. With headquarters in New York’s United Nations Plaza, PCI Media was one of the earliest pioneers of the concept of Entertainment-Education, a discipline that has been emulated in both the communications and academic communities. Sean is a tireless advocate of the transformative power of storytelling and creative use of communications to shift social norms and bring about behavior change.

With a multi-sectorial background, he brings 12 years of experience with the United Nations Development Program, 5 years with the Canadian government and 3 years working with other international development organizations such as ICLEI (Secretary General) and Rare (Vice-President).

In 2016, Sean was elected as Chair for the International Union for the Conservation on Nature’s (IUCN) Commission on Education and Communication. He has become prominent on the speaking circuit and is often featured in news and media outlets.

Sean is a dual Canadian and South African citizen and has lived, worked and travelled in over 80 countries. He holds a MSC from the London School of Economics and a BA in Economics from University of British Columbia, and has a wonderful daughter, Safia.
